R Associates Inc. (RAI) delivers small specialist servers, we call these network appliances, which are at the low end of the scale of computing. For our hardware, we primarily lead with Supermicro because their product portfolio is second to none in this industry. It means that we can find a chassis, motherboard, power supply, integrated networking and processor combination to your exact need from their catalog of over a thousand varieties. For a small server, why pay higher prices, when RAI can deliver a server for a lower price than the lowest Internet price?

R Associates Inc. (RAI) also delivers large traditional single servers that need to be run for long periods without interruption. These servers are generally done for High Availability (HA), making hardware reliability and durability extremely important. Mission-critical enterprise servers would be very fault tolerant and use specialized hardware with low failure rates in order to maximize uptime. Uninterruptible power supplies might be incorporated to ensure against power failure AND hardware redundancy, such as dual power supplies, a RAID disk system  and registered ECC memory. These large servers require their critical components to be hot swappable, enabling engineers and technicians to replace them on the running server without shutting it down. Also, to protect against overheating, servers might have more powerful fans or use water cooling. They will often be able to be configured, powered up and down or rebooted remotely, using out-of-band management, typically based on IPMI. Server casings are usually flat and wide, and designed to be rack-mounted, but could be made available in a Tower chassis. These types of servers are often housed in dedicated server rooms, in racks, where temperature can be controlled. Examples are:
